ESSNA launches its 2019-2024 manifesto on the eve of the European Commission’s new mandate
The European Specialist Sports Nutrition Alliance (ESSNA) welcomes the appointment of the new College of Commissioners led by President Ursula Von der Leyen and takes this opportunity to unveil its manifesto highlighting on the industry’s priorities for 2019-2024.
The positive vote of the new European Commission body by the European Parliament on 27th November sends a strong and positive signal that the European institutions are eager to fully implement the priorities and ambitions set out in the Political Guidelines by the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
The framework for sports nutrition products in Europe is the most stable it’s been for years and this has enabled the industry to grow and innovate under general food law. More can be done so we can continue to support European citizens conducting healthy lifestyles and complementing balanced diets.
ESSNA will work together with Commissioner Stella Kyriakides on all health and food related matters, Executive Vice President Frans Timmermans on the sustainability agenda; Executive Vice President Margrethe Vestager on digital affairs; Commissioner Phil Hogan on trade including a trade deal with post-Brexit Britain; and other relevant policymakers, to work towards a healthier, fitter future.
ESSNA has selected in its Manifesto a few important elements for policymakers to focus on in the upcoming mandate and has expanded on what is needed to complete a transformation towards a healthier and fitter future:
- Acknowledging the dietary needs of sportspeople in food law
- Facilitating consumer choice through accurate, informative and harmonised labelling
- Promoting efforts to tackle doping
- Tackling food fraud & non-compliance online and offline
- Supporting & promoting innovation
- Working towards a fair and fully harmonised single market
- Ensuring a fair & well-informed online environment
- Moving towards a greener sustainable sports industry
ESSNA wishes the appointed policymakers all the best and is looking forward to a positive and fruitful collaboration!
