The European Specialist Sports Nutrition Alliance (ESSNA) has announced another expansion in its membership as Essentia Metabolic Proteins (EMP), Calleva and Cornelius join Europe’s voice for the sports nutrition industry.

Top ingredients’ developers and producers EMP, nutritional product development and co-manufacture specialists Calleva and leading European manufacturer and distributor of specialty ingredients Cornelius become the latest companies to commit themselves to ESSNA’s core values of the highest safety standards and upholding EU regulations on the content and labelling of sports nutrition products.

The boost to ESSNA’s membership, which brings the total number of members up to over fifty, follows its first global conference, which took place in Brussels in September. The conference centred on discussions around the future of the sports nutrition industry at a crucial time for the sector, and saw a range of speakers from the EU Commission, UK Anti-Doping and UNESDA, among others.

Dr Adam Carey, Chair of ESSNA, said:

“ESSNA is delighted to publicly welcome these three hugely respected companies to its membership. The sports nutrition market is continuing to rapidly grow and ESSNA’s continued growth reflects this, as well ESSNA’s growing reputation for protecting our members’ interests and presenting them to important policy-makers. It is crucial that organisations in our sector continue to work together to be able to share views and experiences, focus on providing the best possible service for our customers and raise the industry’s concerns with regulators and lawmakers as one united front.”

Susanne Hayes, Director of Sales Europe at EMP said:

“Essentia Metabolic Proteins is excited and proud to become members of ESSNA and its highly skilled and expertise network of leading companies within the sports nutrition industry. We share the mutual commitment towards well composed EU regulations aimed to advise and protect consumers and support the marketing of safe and efficacious sports nutrition products. Essentia Metabolic Proteins is a leading global protein manufacturer with core values and ethics built on respect and responsibility, focusing on innovation and continuously elevating the standards to ensure the highest quality and purity ingredients. We look forward to working with ESSNA and being part of the further growth of this industry.”

Clive Griffiths, Managin Director at Calleva said:

“Calleva are delighted to have joined ESSNA and their group of existing member companies because of a shared focus on high quality, regulatory compliance, trust and integrity within the sports nutrition sector. As Calleva are a contract developer, manufacturer and packer for some of the UK and Europe’s leading nutrition brands, being an ESSNA member adds another level of reassurance for our customers and offers an opportunity for involvement in an increasingly important and influential forum within the industry.”

Joy Thomas, Technical Business Manager at Cornelius said:

“We are very excited about joining ESSNA as the Sports Nutrition market is one of the key areas of focus for Cornelius. In addition to our stringent quality and audit procedures, regulatory compliance is a top priority for us. Membership is key to our aims and we look forward to working closely with ESSNA and other members.”

ESSNA is the voice of the sports nutrition industry in dialogue with regulators and policy makers and it campaigns in favour of proportionate EU legislation that does not adversely affect the industry. ESSNA also acts as a “police” to the industry by monitoring and reporting irresponsible companies which flout EU law and may put consumers at potential risk from dangerous products.
