The Alliance was launched formally on 2nd December 2003 with the following aim:

To be a forum for discussion and vehicle for action on the concerns of the specialist sports nutrition sector to secure appropriate and proportionate European legislation on sports nutrition products.

Today, ESSNA is in close dialogue with a wide variety of stakeholders, including officials of the European Commission and Member State Agencies, other trade bodies, legislatures and sporting organizations, to represent the views of the specialist sector in a wide range of discussions.
